Professor Murphey of the University of Michigan visited Shanghai Jiaotong University and AIPT Laboratory

On March 6, 2017,  Yi Lu Murphey, Associate Dean of the Graduate School of the University of Michigan and a professor at the School of Electronics and Computer Engineering, went to the Aerospace Academy for an academic exchange visit.  Xingqun Zhan, deputy dean of the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Professor Jianhua Luo from the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Yuanxiang Li,  director of the Aviation Intelligent Optoelectronics Laboratory, Lu Junguo, professor of the School of Telecommunications, Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Wu Qi, an associate professor, attended the welcoming ceremony.
Vice President Xingqun Zhan welcomed Professor Murphey's visit and briefed Professor Murphey on the development of Shanghai Jiaotong University in the field of aerospace. He also held a ceremony for the appointment of a visiting professor at Murphey Shanghai Jiaotong University. Professor Murphey expressed her hope to establish a friendly relationship between the University of Michigan and Shanghai Jiaotong University through this visit, exploring opportunities for cooperation, and promoting exchanges between students and teachers.


Professor Murphey gave an academic report entitled Neural Learning in Multi-class Pattern Classification, explaining the application of neural network learning in multi-classification problems in recent years. Subsequently, Professor Murphey had a passionate interaction with the teachers and students of the Aerospace Academy.


On the afternoon of March 6, Professor Murphey visited the AIPT Laboratory. The laboratory students introduced the research progress for Professor Murphey and demonstrated the results of some projects. Finally, Professor Murphey and laboratory students exchanged their academic frontiers in pattern recognition and machine learning research.
